about
“You For You” is a sunshiney R&B/Soul bop leaping heart-first into the start of summer, led by Kristin Fung’s commanding crystal-clear voice spouting an uplifting anthem about loving yourself and others despite capitalist pressure to continually chase what’s 'shiny and new.' Backing her earnest delivery is a hype band of funky Canadian heavyweights (Sarah Thawer, Anh Phung, Rich Brown, Eric St-Laurent) in a jumbo instrumental arrangement cheered on by a rambunctious chanting crowd. “You For You” is a colourful tapestry with threads of go-go, sassy-smooth 90s diva vocals, and throwback grooves that transcend cultural and racial boundaries, giving us front-row seats to an epic backyard BBQ jam. Just bring yourself to the party. You are enough.

lyrics
Some people, they drive a fancy car
They take it everywhere even when they’re not going far
And some people think that cashflow is having it all
But when the chips are down, babe
Will they still be standing tall?
And some people, they wanna buy a great piece of land
They want a million dollars
For a castle in the sand
And some people really just can’t put down their phones
They take them everywhere, not knowing how to be alone, but
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you
Some people let their 9-to-5 tell them how to live their life
Now, I know we all gotta work to avoid the pain and strife
Some people think they always have to do, do, do
They think they’re only worthy of a life that they can prove, but
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you
It’s about the things you can’t see
Some say that I’m looking for love
I say that I’m looking for truth
Do we only love what’s shiny and new?
Do we only love what’s shiny and new?
Some people still trying to be the coolest kid around
They think they’re moving up
When they’re pushing others down
And some people think it’s all about having a pretty face
But don’t they know that beautiful
is something you can’t erase
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you
You better play
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you (you’re already extraordinary)
I want you for you, for you, for you
Give me your everyday ordinary story
You’re already extraordinary
Give me your everyday ordinary story
You’re already extraordinary
Give me your everyday ordinary story
You’re already extraordinary
Give me your everyday ordinary story
You’re already extraordinary
Give me your everyday ordinary story
You’re already extraordinary
Give me your everyday ordinary story
You’re already extraordinary
Give me your everyday ordinary story
You’re already extraordinary
Give me your everyday ordinary story
You’re already extraordinary
